This post is all about the best journaling inspiration for summer!
The Best Journaling Inspiration
Journaling is a very personal and vulnerable thing. It is meant to be a private space to release all of your thoughts and feelings or it can be somewhere you escape to and get away from all the noise.
This post gives a bunch of different ideas and suggestions. Try it out but ultimately, if you don’t like something, don’t do it.
Summer brings another level of light into your life and as you get old, that light can be dimmed with the responsibilities of being an adult.
Let your journal guide you to a better summer. One that is filled with pool days, smoothies, and sun.
Journaling Inspiration Prompts
Starting your journal with a prompt is a great way to actually start. It can be hard to look at a blank page and try to figure out what to write. However, if you have a prompt, you already know what you can start with.
From there, your words and thoughts can take you into a bunch of different directions.
- Things I love: Write about all the things you currently love. Creating this list will bring so much joy and appreciate for those special things. It is always good to take some time every once in a while to reflect on the positive things in your life.
- Favorite movies: What are your favorite movies? Maybe get excited for your next movies night with popcorn, chocolate covered strawberries, and lots of warm blankets!
- All about me: Write a journal entry that’s all about you. This is the time to think about you.
- Love letter: Write a love letter. This can be to anyone! Yourself, a crush, a friend, a significant other/partner. Whoever you choose.
- Goals: Write about your goals. Do a quick little check-in on your progress or maybe talking about some goals you want to start working toward. Setting goals can be super exciting as you look toward what it would mean and how you would feel once they are achieved. But remember, it’s not just about writing them down, but following up with actions that will help you reach them.
- Wish list: A wish list can get tricky. The goal is to not write down a bunch of things that are very unlikely to happen, such as getting a private jet. For most of us, this will not happen. Dream big but make a wish list that is meaningful. A few example is a wish list of things you want for a new apartment or a wish list of traveling destinations you want to go visit.
- Current obsessions: This is always a super fun prompts to journal about. Write about your current obsessions. It’s fun to go back and read these over time.
- Daily reflection: Writing down some daily reflections is one of my favorite ways to journal. A short and sweet daily reflection is great way to end the day. What did you do today? How did you feel? What do you want to accomplish tomorrow? Daily reflections can help create growth and purpose for each day.
- Manifestations: Manifestation is so powerful. If you believe something will come true and constantly manifest and remind yourself that it will come true, with enough hard work and dedication, it will! I believe that you can doing anything you want, with enough hard hard. So manifest your dream life.
- Glow up discussion: Alright, here me out. Sometime we just need a little glow up session. For this prompt, write down what you can do to feel your absolute best and prettiest. Because everyone is uniquely beautiful and deserves to feel it. One of my favorite mini “glow ups” is a simple everything shower. In this case, I’d write down everything I’d do in my everything shower to feel amazing.
- What makes me feel confident: If you feel like your confidence is lacking, this is the perfect prompt for you. Write down everything that makes you feel confident. If you don’t know, take note every time you do something that makes you feel confident. After a while, you should have a decent size list to note and use on the days you don’t feel as confident to give yourself a boost.
- One positive, one negative of the day: Maybe you’ve played this game at the dinner table, but now you can be completely open and honest and dig deep. Write down one positive and one negative thing that happened in the day. Reflect on your answer.
- Affirmations: Journaling affirmations is one way to boost your confidence and self love. Write down some affirmations about yourself and your life.

Journaling Inspiration Creativity & Design
- Coloring books: You are never too old for coloring books. Coloring is more than just a way to keep children entertained. It sparks creativity and fosters mindfulness as you try staying in-between the lines and picking your colors. Add some coloring pages to your journal or it bring it by the pool for some relaxing coloring.
- Doodles: Journaling pages are meant to have some doodles on them. You can typically find some array of swirlies or Aztec designs on my pages. Get creative with your doodling. They are simple mindless scribbles on a piece of paper but make for some fun summer journal designs.
- Pressed flowers: Adding physical objects to your journal, almost like a scrapbook, it one of my favorite ways to spice up my journal. Pressed flowers, real or fake, are unique elements you can add to your journal.
- Bow ties: Little bows have been everywhere lately! From hair accessories to cake decorations, bow ties are super trendy right now and for good reason. They are so cute! It is the perfect girlie accessory to add to your journal. You can either draw it or add a physical bow.
- Sun drawings: What’s summer without sun? There are so many different ways to draw a sun. Extend your sunray across the entire page or add a cute face. Sprinkle in a touch of summer with none other than a sun.
- Waves: And where there is sun, there is also the ocean. Drawing some waves is another design element you can add to your summer journal.
- Frame the page: Add a cute frame to the page. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy. A simple swirly line around the entire page will give it a bit more structure and spice up a rather simple page.
- Add in physical photos: Adding in photos is a great way to incorporate some visual for whatever you are journaling about. Are you reflecting on your day? Tape the top of the photo into the journal.
- Keep receipts, concert tickets, etc: This goes along with pictures. Any fun little keep sakes make the perfect journaling material. Writing about your day is great but something physical will give you a deeper connection with how it made you feel and bring you back to that day.
- Add different fonts: Finally, add some fun fonts and calligraphy. This is one of the simplest, yet most transformative things you can do. Any word you want to stand out, make it a fun font. Maybe you make it bubble letters or cursive.
At the end of the day, there are so many creative things you can do it to your journal. Have fun and make it your own.

Your post is very timely. I’ve been looking for something to do on the beach and might as well start journaling on every beach I visit. Surely, the best remembrance I could ever have.
