Setting goals for yourself is so important to finding your path in life. It allows you to narrow in on what you want to accomplish so you can spend your time in the most effective and efficient way possible. It will also help you create a path to achieve those goals.
A wellness journey is all about finding happiness, health, and confidence in ones self. One of the best ways to achieve that is by finding aspirations and wants for your future so you can realistically create the life you want.
And it all begins with goal setting and a vision for the future.
6 Major Benefits of Goal Setting
1. Goal setting helps to figure out where you want to see yourself in the future.
It is important and beneficial for everyone to have future goals whether it is a long-term goal that will take years of hard work or a short-term goal that may only require 30 minutes of focus. Whatever it is, these goals help to create a vision for yourself.
2. At the end of the day, your goals are going to be a big factor of motivation for you.
They will push you to continue making yourself better and improving your well-being. A lot of people fall back on their goals to get themselves out of bed in the morning. Whether it’s a fear of failure or eagerness to succeed, goals will motivate you.
3. They narrow your focus and guide you to success.
The world is full of so many things and so many options. It is impossible to achieve everything. Creating goals with help you find and focus on the things that are truly important to you.
You will have way more success focusing on a few goals rather than spreading yourself too thin by investing a little time into a bunch of things.
4. Goals are a way of figuring out what makes you happy.
This might be the hardest part in anyone’s wellness journey; figuring out what makes you happy. You could be successful in a lot of things but if it doesn’t make you happy, you will never truly achieve happiness and wellness.
Goals can start prioritizing the things that make you happy and eventually lead to toward the ultimate journey and lifestyle.
5. Goals create confidence in your daily life.
If you are taking small steps each day to achieve your goal, you will likely feel a sense of accomplishment at the end of the day. You will feel confident in yourself and your ability to keep going. Having confidence that you will get to the end result is crucial to success.
6. You will start to feel more organized.
I create small goals at the beginning of every week which helps me organize my tasks and prioritize the things I want and need to do. It works the same for long-term goals as well.
I find that when I take some time to sit down and think about my goals for the week, month, or year, it excites me! It makes me want to work to achieve those goals I just set. I am feel inspired and ready to go after those goals.
And you can too!
Take some time and think about some of your future goals. What do you want to accomplish that will make you feel good? What do you see for yourself in the future and how can you get there?
Write it all down. Journal it. Type it out in your notes. Get it out of your head and let your goals and dreams start becoming real.

Accept the Results
You already know just how important goal setting it and how much value they provide in your life. However, goals also come with pressure and disappoint. Life doesn’t always go exactly how it is planned and sometimes your goal doesn’t always happen.
A goal is meant to guide you and give you something to work toward. It is used as a form of motivation. Your goal may not always be the end destination though. Figuring out how to accept the outcome and failure will help you live a happy and healthy life.
Things change! People change.
Sometimes a vision we have in our head isn’t exactly what reality looks like. The best thing you can do to improve your wellness is a situation like that, is to accept the results and move forward.
The world is always changing and we can’t control a lot of things that affect our lives.
One of the biggest examples of all is Covid-19. I’m sure at the end of 2019, none of us were expecting a global pandemic to break out. None of us were planning on quarantine and wearing face masks for the next year and half. It’s really hard to adjust and to change your habits.
Your goals may change depending on the situation in which you can’t control. In a situation like this, finding new goals or a different way to achieve your current ones may be the only option.
Be Flexible
In order to achieve a happy and healthy well-being, you need to create goals and intentions knowing that things are flexible. The world keeps going and so will you. If something didn’t turn out the way you want, accept the results and set a new goal to move forward and continue each day.
Assess why it didn’t work out and what you can do to help achieve happiness from that goal.
One of the best things that I learned that has helped me become happier and less stressed is to not fight and try to control the things I can’t control.
It is better to let things you can’t control take its course. Worrying about things and people you can’t control is not going to help and instead, creates unnecessary stress and anger.
Let’s Break it Down
- Create goals – find aspirations that you want to achieve and want a plan on how you are going to achieve these goals
- Carry out your plan by focusing on what you can do to achieve that goal
- As life throws you curveballs, focus in on your intentions and find new ways to get to where you want to go and achieve your goals.
Keeping those things in mind will help to ensure you are doing the things you love and what your heart wants but also not relying on the stability of a constantly changing world.
This can apply to anything in life. Everyone is free to do whatever they want and whatever makes them happy. Sometimes your plan doesn’t overlap with someone else.
Your only authority is over your own life and not anyone else’s. Trying to control other people also creates stress. Focus your efforts on what you can control and change rather than the things you can’t.
When you set your goals, it should be something you are passionate about. Unfortunately, when those things don’t go as planned, it can be disappointing. However, continuing to move forward is the best thing you can do, and it will increase your well-being and overall happiness in the long run.
