This post is all about how to create a mindful morning routine!
What Does a Mindful Morning Mean?
A mindful morning is a time to practice being aware of your thoughts, feelings, and surroundings to start your day with a sense of calm and clarity.
It’s a time to slow down, focus on the present moment, and set a positive tone for the day ahead.
Whether it’s through meditation, journaling, stretching, or simply enjoying a quiet cup of coffee, a mindful morning helps create space for clarity, gratitude, and balance, allowing you to approach the day with focus and a sense of peace.
And it’s important to note that this can look a bit different for everyone. So trying out different things and testing what makes you feel the best going into the rest of your day will be super important.
The Ultimate Secret to a Mindful Morning
There are a lot of different things you can do to create a mindful morning routine but before I get into that list, I need to let you in on the #1 thing I firmly believe will get you the best morning and day.
Over and over again, this one thing drastically changes how productive and lively I am in the morning.
This secret is….*drum roll please*…STAYING OFF YOUR PHONE!
I am not joking, when you wake up and immediately scroll on your phone or check emails for 20-30 minutes it makes you feel groggy and diminished your motivation and mindfulness.
Suddenly you’re locked into what’s going on online than what you can make happen to your own life.
I know this all sounds a little dramatic but the days that I stay off my phone in the morning are the days that I get the most done and are more in tune with my body and how I’m feeling.
Time and time again, this is the one thing that has THE BIGGEST impact on my mindful morning routine.
And this is why it is my #1 step to create a mindful morning routine.
So now that you know that, let’s get into all the other ways you can transform your morning.
How to Create a Mindful Morning Routine
1. Go to Bed Early
Your perfect mindful morning doesn’t just start in the morning—it starts the night before.
Going to bed at a reasonable time that allows you to get 7-8 hours of sleep in the night will drastically help how you feel the next morning.
You can’t have a good day if you are tired from lack of sleep.
So set yourself up for success and get cozy and into bed reasonable early.
One thing I’ve really noticed is that whatever happens the day before, determines how easy or hard it will be to fall into a good routine.
Meaning…if you sleep in the day before, you won’t be as tired when it comes to going to sleep and then you will stay up later. But if you get up early, you’ll be ready to go to sleep earlier so you can get up early the next day.
We really are creatures of habit and so getting into a routine is just so much easier once you are in it because our bodies are literally wired that way.
If you have trouble falling asleep, try getting into a night routine.
2. Wake Up Early and Give Yourself Time
This one goes hand in hand with the first essential.
Getting up early and allowing yourself time to actually have a morning before heading into work or going about the rest of your day if crucial.
For all of my working girlies, doing things like working out also give me a lot more work-life balance because I didn’t feel like my whole day consisted of working.
3. Avoid Your Phone
I’ve already talked about this and let you in on my secret that avoiding your phone is the #1 way to create a mindful morning routine so I won’t go into a ton of details but if you don’t believe me, you’re just going to have to try it out yourself 🙂
Your phone is so tempting in the morning, but staying off of it will be life changing.
Getting yourself moving soon after you get up no joke gives such a boost to my energy.
4. Drink Water and Hydrate
Drinking water is such a universal healthy habit. With the endless amount of health benefits for your skin, digestion, weight management, and tons more, it was only necessary to include this on your mindful morning routine.
Drinking water first thing in the morning is SO BENEFICIAL:
- Replenishes fluids: When you sleep, your body becomes dehydrated due to the lack of water in 8 hours.
- Maintains heart health: Reduces strain on your heart
- Boosts metabolism: Increases metabolism by up to 30% and help you feel more full
- Stimulates digestion: Helps to prevent constipation and promote regular bowel movements
- Improves skin ton: Flushes out toxins and reduces puffiness and prevent premature aging.
- Enhance mood and cognitive function: Due to dehydration, cognitive functions decrease leading to mood swings.
Honestly, you’ve probably heard it all so my case is closed.
Drink water as soon as you get up!
5. Put On An Outfit You Feel Confident In
If you’re anything like me, your outfit is everything!
I’m by no means the queen of fashion BUT I am the queen of prioritizing wearing clothes I feel confident in.
This is why I STRUGGLE buying clothes because I HAVE to feel confident in them or else I will never wear it.
Putting on an outfit you feel confident in can drastically affect how you act and your mood so do yourself justice and put on an outfit that makes you feel confident.
6. Fuel your Body
I love breakfast, I’m a breakfast girlie for sure. But regardless of if you eat breakfast in the morning, make sure you are giving it fuel to feel good!
Whether that means making a bomb latte, sipping on tea, or enjoying a healthy breakfast, giving your body some sort of fuel is so important.
Eating a high protein breakfast and sipping on some coffee sets me up for the perfect day ahead. A few high-protein breakfast I love are:
- Jimmy dean breakfast sammies for an easy grab and go meal
- Protein shake
- Breakfast tacos with eggs and sausage
- Greek yogurt, granola, berries and honey for the perfect homemade parfait.
7. Quick Journal Entry & Make a To Do List
I think one of the best things you can do in the morning to create the perfect mindful morning is spend a couple minutes doing a journal session.
This could look like:
- Creating a to-do list for the day/planning out your day
- Gratitude journal
- Free writing your thoughts

8. Move Your Body
Finally, moving your body in the morning creates the perfect cherry on top for a mindful morning routine.
Getting my blood pumping and sweat on in the morning creating such a productive, serotonin-spiking atmosphere that sets my day up perfectly.
Although this doesn’t happen every morning, on the ones that it does, I feel so good. Getting up of bed is the hardest part and then once you are up and moving, those feel-good hormones kick in and your body is thanking you.
It all Starts Somewhere
Each day is a reset. No matter how good or bad the day before was, the morning represents a moment of clarity, calmness, and an opportunity to reset.
Everyone has a morning and what you do it with it I believe makes a huge difference in your success.
So give a few, or all, of these mindful morning routine essentials a try.
Figure out what makes you feel the best.
And start your day in the best way possible!
