Achieve effortless and luscious curly hair with this easy hack to curl long hair in 5 minutes.
Curling your hair is a great way to style hair for any occasion. Although, putting hours of time into curling your hair, especially for those that have long, or thick hair can be annoying. I’m definitely not one to spend an hour doing my hair. That’s why I found a simple hack to curl long hair in 5 minutes while still having it look so elegant and luscious.
Before Curling
There are a few things you should do before curling your hair to ensure there is no heat damage and your hair is prepped and ready to go.
- Make sure your hair is washed. We are going to want to start with clean and fresh hair before curling it.
- Go ahead and dry your hair fully.
- Put heat protectant or deep conditioner in your hair. I use, “it’s a perfect 10”. This is a deep conditioner that I put in my hair after each shower regardless of if I curl my hair or not. It works great for keeping my hair healthy and moisturized. I especially use it if I am curling my hair because it works as a barrier between the heat and my hair, so it avoids damage.
Now that our hair is ready to go, we can go ahead and turn on the curling iron. This method of curling works with any kind of iron or wand, however, I use a 1-inch wand that gets smaller at the tip. If you have multiple sizes of curling irons, I recommend one no bigger than an inch. This method of curling already creates relaxed curls so having a curling iron that is too big might result in your hair falling flat. In addition, we aren’t going to be using a clamp so that isn’t an issue either.
Let’s begin!
Step 1:
Put your hair in a ponytail in the center of your head, not too high and not too low.
I like to keep my hair parted in the ponytail instead of brushing it back. Either way works, so do whatever you like better.
This step is what makes this method so efficient. Because we put our hair up, it is a lot less hair to deal with and to curl. I have medium thickness and long hair and usually only have to curl around 4-5 pieces total. Whereas, if my hair were to be down, I’d have way more.
The ponytail is what also creates a more relaxed and beach-like curl. The ponytail makes it so you begin curling almost half way down your hair.
Step 2:
Take pieces from your ponytail and curl them. Again, it should only be about 4-6 pieces depending on how thick your hair is. You may also choose to do smaller pieces if you want tighter curls. I find that 5-6 pieces is a good amount and makes really natural curls.
Step 3:
Next, gently take the ponytail out of your hair. However, you are going to want to allow the hair 3-5 minutes to cool down before doing so to prevent the hair from falling too flat. Fluff out your hair by combing your fingers through your hair.
Step 4:
Curl the front piece on each side of your hair. Make sure that you curl these pieces away from your face to create a good face framing curl. To do this, bring your hair over the curling iron before you wrap the hair around the iron. This will ensure that when you are wrapping your hair around the iron, you are circling your hair away from your face.
This step is option, but it adds a ton of structure to your face and some extra curls in the front. At this time, you can also go in and re-curl any piece you feel needs a little bit more.
ALL DONE!!:)
There you have it! How to curl long hair in 5 minutes! I love leaving it just like that. There is something so simple and elegant about plain, curled hair. However, you can take it a step further and style it however you like from this point as well.
