Without confidence, it’s hard to express who you are and how you think. That isn’t something that should be taken lightly. As an individual, you are uniquely beautiful in your own way. Having confidence is powerful and beautiful.
Building confidence is partly about figuring out who you are. These are things like, where you came from, what you believe, what you enjoy doing, any experiences you’ve had, and overall, what’s in your heart and mind.
That’s a lot to know about yourself, especially when you are young. A lot of these things we, an individuals, figure out as we grow up and gain experiences and opinions. Once that happens, it will be easier to create a strong feeling of confidence.
But, what about right now?

You don’t have to wait, and you don’t have to have the rest of your life figured out to feel confident either. Trust yourself that you will figure it out. Focus on building confidence in who you are today because the rest will fall into place.
So how can you do that? How can you gain confidence?
Everyone has insecurities and things that they don’t like about themselves. The goal here is to recognize the amazing things about yourself and accept those things you don’t like so each day, you can work on improving them and improving your mindset.
Start building confidence now!
Ask yourself some question and write down the answers.
- What are the things I like about myself?
- What are the things I don’t like about myself?
- What are some ways that I can improve the things I don’t like?
Sometimes one negative thing about yourself can get into your head and out-weight all the good things that you actually like about yourself. Laying out both will help you see that there are a lot of great things about yourself. It may also help you see just how insignificant the things you don’t like about yourself really are. Remember that many of the things that drive us crazy, are the things that nobody notices.
1) Turn the negatives into positives
There are always going to be things that you are self-conscious about which is 100% normal. An important part about gaining confidence and maintaining it, is by finding ways to make any negative emotions toward yourself feel positive. It might be one little task you do that changes how you feel about the things you might be self-conscious about.
For example, if I haven’t worked out in a few days, I begin to feel worse about my body. In reality, my body didn’t change that much from a skipped workout. However, I feel more confident about myself after I work out and my mind is clearer and stronger minded. That is one way that I have learned to maintain my confidence and a healthy mind.
Try to do this with something you don’t feel the most confidence about. Think of ways that lessen those bad feelings and emotions towards that insecurity. What were some of the times where you felt really good about yourself and what were you doing?
2) Keep a healthy mind
Remember that our mind is what is controlling these unwanted negative emotions. Creating a clear mind will help limit feelings of self-consciousness and lack of confidence. Find ways to release any stress. Researchers have found that stress reduces an individual’s confidence by the hormone cortisol. Cortisol is released from the adrenal gland as a response to stress. Therefore, limiting stress and clearing your mind will help you gain, build, and maintain confidence.
Great ways to release stress is by taking part in self-care at least once a week. Self-care is any activity that promotes physically, mental and emotional health. The good news is that there are a bunch of different forms of self-care; take a bath with a fun bath bomb, exercise, do yoga.

3) Understand your Uniqueness!
In a lot of cases, the things that are different about us, are what we are the least confident about. However, being different makes us unique and beautiful.
Embrace it!
For example, when I was little, I used to be insecure about how many freckles I had. If you don’t know, I am a natural ginger. I have a bunch of freckles everywhere and when I was younger, I really didn’t like that. However now, I love my freckles and they are in a sense, part of who I am. I wouldn’t be me without them and I love that.
My mindset towards my freckles changed once I realized that they are unique and beautiful in their own way. You don’t have to be like everybody else to be beautiful.
Some of the things you may be self-conscious about, you can’t change. I can’t change how many freckles I get. In cases like this, it is best to look at that insecurity in a new light.
4) Surround yourself with the right people
The people you surround yourself with can have a huge affect on your self-confidence. The truth is people can influence the way you feel about yourself. Someone that is constantly teasing you or making fun of the things you are insecure about, is not the kind of person you want to associate yourself with.
If your friends don’t make you feel secure and happy about yourself, it is probably a sign that you are hanging out with the wrong people.
5) Push through each setback
After everything is said and done, there will be moments of doubts. Moments that you may feel like you don’t belong and times that you aren’t confident in yourself.
But it is important that you do the things that make you feel confident and secure with who you are. Because those moments are what spark growth and increase self-love. Those are the moments that build confidence.
Be who you are!
Understanding why you don’t feel confident about yourself is the first step in feeling confident and building that confidence. After that, find ways to manage those insecurities and uneasy feelings. How can you influence those emotions and ultimately be okay with everything about yourself?
Starting doing the things that make you feel good. Be with the people that make you feel happy. Confidence comes from within. You need to know how amazing you are.
Confidence will come with experience and knowledge about the world and yourself. Don’t worry and stress about the little things. Enjoy right now!
