Did you know that our brains have anywhere from 50,000 to 70,000 thoughts a day and around 60-70% of them are negative? This shows just how much we are hurting ourselves and our happiness thinking about all these negative things. Learning to develop a growth mindset can help avoid a lot of thing negative feelings and lead to more success and happiness.
Many people are limiting what they can do simply because their mindset and thoughts about who they are and who they can be are holding them back.
There is so much power in your mindset. It doesn’t just affect you on the inside, but it also affects what happens in the real world.
Self-Fulfilled Prophecy
Do you often find yourself thinking negatively about what you can achieve or how something is going to go? And then later, that very thing you were worried about actually happened.
This is a psychological idea called self-fulfilling prophecy and it has to do with the powerful effects of your mind.
Self-fulfilled prophecy is the psychological idea that people’s expectations of themselves or others can lead them to behave in ways that make those expectations come true. In other words, people are foreshadowing reality based on their mindset.
For example, if you say you are going to fail a test and walk into the testing center with that in mind, you are more likely to actually fail the test.
Contrary, if you are walking into a job interview feeling very confident and good about yourself and your preparation, you are likely going to succeed.
Has that ever happened to you?
It’s crazy to think that our mind has so much effect on the environment around us.
This is why is it so important that you believe in yourself and start thinking positive thoughts about the events and experiences in your life. Because those thoughts will transfer to the real world.
Fake it till you Make it
I think the expression, “fake it till you make it” is often misunderstood. This expression isn’t saying to be a completely fake person and not stand by what you like and believe in.
Instead, “fake it till you make it” means that even if something feels uncomfortable or you are not confident in yourself, fake it. Tell yourself you are amazing and going to be okay.
Tell yourself you are going to do so good at whatever you are faced with. Don’t express on the outside that you are nervous or lacking confidence.
Instead, hype yourself up!
YOU CAN DO IT. YOU CAN SUCCEED.
I know this is not as easy as it seems, and a lot of people struggle with this, myself included. And I know it will feel uncomfortable but guess what?
You grow the most when you are uncomfortable. Some of the greatest pleasures come from being uncomfortable. All you have to do is push past the discomfort and start believing in yourself and reaching for what you want.
At the end of the day, the fastest and easiest way to see positive change in yourself and the environment around you, is by starting to change your thoughts and development a growth mindset. Because there is so much power in your mindset and what you think you’re capable of.
Growth Mindset vs Fixed Mindset
Growth Mindset
People that have a growth mindset believe that their talents and successes can be developed and achieved through dedication, good strategies, and hard work. It is all wrapped around the idea that you can achieve anything you put are mind to.
This idea of a growth mindset was first introduced only a few decades ago. Recent advances in neuroscience have helped support this scientifically. These advances have shown that we can increase our neural growth by the things we do. These activities are thing such as asking questions, having good strategies, our sleep habits, wellness practices, and more.
Fixed Mindset
People that have a fixed mindset believe that their talents and successes are a gift and given to them either naturally or luckily. The problem with this mindset is that it causes the individual to wait for success to happen to them. They don’t focus on what they can do to be better.
I believe everyone can gain so much more happiness, willpower, and success by shifting more toward a growth mindset and by focusing on the effort you put into things and knowing that it will pay off. In addition, thinking positively will play into your success.
“The ones who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones that do.” -Steve Jobs
“There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.” -Colin Powell
