So, let’s get right into it!

How to Make A Vision Board
Step 1: Reflect on the past year
The first thing you have to do before even starting your vision board is to sit down and reflect. Reflection is one of the most effective techniques in moving forward and growing. You have to understand what went well and what you would change about the past year to move forward and grow.
Ask yourself reflection questions such as:
- What brings you the most joy and how are you going to do more of that?
- What is most valuable in your life right now?
- Describe this past year in 3 word.
- What relationships aren’t benefitting you anymore?
- What relationships most supported your growth this year?
- What are you most grateful for about this past year?
- Was there a moment or event that changed your life this past year? How does that affect you?
- What was the single most challenging this that happened?
- What was the best thing that happened?
Asking yourself these questions and answering them as honest as you can, will be really enlightening. Hopefully, by the end of your reflection, you know what you should leave in 2023 and what things to bring forward into 2024.
This is a time to learn more about your life and understand what is really making you happy. Once you know that, you can move on to Step 2.
Step 2: Figure out your vision and goals for the next year
Creating your vision and goals for the next year is so exciting. The New Year represents change and new comings. While I believe you shouldn’t wait until the New Year to start achieving your goals, it can be a time of great motivation and encouragement that allows you to gain the momentum you need to succeed. When you have that, run with it.
However, making a vision board mean you have to know what you vision actually is. The end of year can be crazy and hectic with the holiday season so you may not be thinking about what happened in the past 12 months. Before starting your vision board, take time to think about what your vision is and what your goals actually are.
Think about these questions:
- What does success look like to you during this upcoming year?
- What would you try if you knew you could not fail?
- What class or skill would you want to learn this year?
- What 1-3 words best captures your intentions for the upcoming year?
- How would you like things to be 90 days from now in terms of work, relationships, money, health, community, and home?
You are the only person that can tell you what you want. While some things are surface level, others require you dig deep and be honest with yourself.
You can make your life whatever you want. It’s up to you and now is as best time as ever!
Step 3: Start with a Blank Canvas
Once you have reflected and understand your goals and vision, now it’s time to start with a blank canvas. I mean this figuratively and literally.
Your vision board starts with nothings and you get to create it. Another it is really just a blank poster board or blank corkboard, that symbolized more.
You can put whatever you want onto your canvas because it’s blank. Similarly, what you start a New Year, that should be a blank canvas too. Now, obviously we can’t start our lives over each year and the things we did in 2023 or going to carry over to 2024. However, for your vision board, it represents change and making whatever you want at of life.
Don’t focus on the past year or anything that happened. Focus on what you want moving forward.
So, get your blank canvas and start creating.
Step 4: Gather and cut images and words that reflect your vision
Of course you are going to need a bunch of images, words, and phrases that reflect your vision to fill your vision board. This is the part you can have fun with.
Get a bunch of magazines, flip through them and cut out whatever speaks to you. Vision boards should mean a lot and have emotional value; however, when you are gathering photos, images and words, don’t think so much and just cut.
Have fun with it. Once you understand how to make a vision board, it really is just a fun and creative process.
Step 5: Assemble, Glue, and Decorate
Once you have collected all the images, words and phrases you want, you can now begin assembling your vision board. Layout all your images on your vison board to your liking.
Now it also a time to decide if you really want that clipping or not. If you don’t have room on your board for everything, you might want to consider eliminating the non-essentials. Similarly, if you have a not of blank space on your board, you may want to consider adding some other clippings.
Once you have everything place the way you want and glued down, it’s time to decorate!
You can use glitter, stickers, markers, paint, etc. Whatever you want!
I like to include the new year such as adding 2024 glittery sticker or text.
Step 6: Place your vision board somewhere you see everyday.
The final step to making your vision board is simple putting it somewhere you see everyday. This vision board is your remember of what you are working for. It is a reminder of why you get up each day. It takes a lot of work to create the life you want to live, however, it is so worth it.
So, having this vision board in a place you see everyday may give you that little bit of motivation to continue working toward those goals and vison.
How to Make Your Vision Come True
Set a plan
Creating your vision board is just the most basic part of making your visions come true. The hard work comes with what you do after creating the board.
The first step in making your vision come true is to set a plan. What are the steps you have to take in order to reach your goals. Keep in mind that you are going to need different plans for different goals. Additionally, long-term goals usually require a lot more than short-term goals.

Build a support system
It is extremely hard to reach your goals all on your own. Support of others is one of the biggest drivers in our success. Having a support system means having someone keep you on track when you aren’t motivated. It means someone being their to hold you accountable. It means having someone to just support you and route for your success.
The power of a support system can be the different between success and failure.
When you are making these goals and vision, invite others to be apart of your journey. These are people that will be there for you, love you and support your through everything.
Building a support system will be crucial in reaching your goals and vision.
Let Your Vision Be Known
I’m someone who doesn’t like to tell everyone my goals right away because then people will know I failed if I don’t achieve them. For this reason, sometimes I feel like I have to keep my goals to myself until I’m very close to achieving them or already have.
However, this is was tricky because then you are the only one keeping those goals and dreams alive. If you get off track, lose motivation for a day, or can’t do it by yourself, you’ve set yourself up for failure. However, if someone knew you set that goal, they can be there to push you and help when you need it.
Letting your visions be known gives motivation and support. Additionally, projecting your goals into the world is a great way to manifest your visions. When you manifest something, you are taking an idea and making it reality, which is exactly what you want to do with your goals and vision.
Making a vision board is a form of manifestation. You are projecting your goals into the world and putting it into existence. There has been many studies about the positive effects of manifestation and how this really works.
So let your vision be known!
Vision without action is merely a dream. Action without vision just passes the time. Vision with action can change the world. – Joel A. Barker
Keep your dreams alive. Understand to achieve anything requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard work, determination, and dedication. Remember all things are possible for those who believe. – Gail Devers
